The Australia Visitor Visa (Subclass 600) is a temporary visa required to enter the country. Some travelers need a valid Australian visa to do tourist activities, go on a cruise, or visit friends and family in the country. It can be applied for from either within Australia or from abroad.

With an Australia Visitor Visa, you can:
- Travel to Australia for tourism and to go on a cruise.
- Visit friends and family (if you’re sponsored by immediate family members that live in Australia).
- Do business activities such as negotiating contracts or attending trade fairs or conferences.
- Study or do a short course for a maximum of three months in Australia.
The Australia Visitor Visa does not permit you to:
- Work or sell goods.
- Participate in a trade fair or conference if you are paid by the organizer.
- Study or do a course for longer than three months.
- Travel to Australia for health reasons, such as to undergo medical treatment.

Please note: Passport holders from the People’s Republic of China (excluding SARs) can visit Australia with this visa type if they’re part of an approved tour group.
If your passport is issued by a country eligible for the Electronic Travel Authority (ETA), you don’t need this visitor visa to travel to Australia. The following countries are eligible for the Australia ETA:
Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Iceland, Ireland, Italy (including Vatican City), Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, The Netherlands Norway, Portugal, Republic of San Marino, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom, and the United States of America.
If you are from Antarctica, Hong Kong, United States, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, Canada or Brunei Darussalam you can apply for the ETA with VP here.
Tourist visas are valid for three years and allows a maximum stay of 3, 6, or 12 months, depending on the applicant’s background.
This type of Australian Tourist Visa is a Multiple Entry document, which means you can enter Australia as often as you like within the valid visa period.
In some cases, it is possible to extend your stay in Australia. Here are some examples:
If you are an Australian citizen and your parents want to visit you and stay longer in Australia they can apply for a stay of up to 12 months.
If you have a tourist visa for 3 or 6 months and your current Australian visa is close to expiring, you can apply for this visitor visa from within Australia to extend your stay.

- A copy of your current valid passport showing your photo, personal details, and passport issue and expiration dates, as well as the pages that have immigration stamps.
- A copy of your ID (if you have one).

- Documents proving you can support your trip during your stay, such as bank statements or financial assets.
- Documents showing that you are employed or studying in your home country.

- Letters from your relative or friend in Australia, inviting you to visit.
- A police certificate.
- Birth certificate for applicants under 18 years of age.
- Family register and composition form (if applicable).

Eligible travelers can transit at the airport without an Australian visa, if they meet the following criteria:
You arrive in Australia by air and have a confirmed ticket to leave Australia to fly to a third country, within 8 hours of arriving.
You have a valid ticket and entry document to enter the final destination country.
You will not go through immigration or leave the airport transit lounge before boarding your onward flight.
